Orchard ladder

The back leg of this three-legged ladder takes up very little room. It therefore enables people to get very close to a tree when they pick its fruit. A traditional stepladder does not allow pickers to get that close.

When a two-legged ladder is left leaning on a branch or tree trunk, it can cause damage.

Sugar apples

A recipe that can be made by the whole family, with parental supervision

You’ll need a candy thermometer. But BE CAREFUL, hot syrup burns.

Ingredients
10 apples (depending on size)
10 wooden skewers
3 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
2/3 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon
15 cloves
1/2 teaspoon red food colouring

Preparation
Line a baking sheet with lightly buttered parchment paper.
Rinse and dry apples thoroughly.
Remove the stem from each apple and insert the skewers.
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cream of tartar, water, lemon juice and cloves.
Add the colouring and bring to a boil
Simmer without stirring until the candy thermometer reads 310°F.
Remove from heat and remove the cloves.
Dip the apples in the syrup.
Place them on the prepared baking sheet.

In this display of products from Verger Guimond, you’ll find apple butter and pear butter, apple caramel, plum jam and cherry jam, apple jelly and crab apple jelly, apple juice and apple syrup. There are also blends of apple and pear juices, and apple and grape juices. The orchard also produces regular and sparkling wines, apple must, apple and pear must, and apple and cranberry must.

Like many Côte-du-Sud orchards, this one has been farmed through the generations and has evolved according to customer demand.

At La Maison de la prune, full-fledged kitchen has been fitted out for processing plums in a building that dates back to 1940 and that is believed to have housed pigs.

Meeting the person who made it completes the experience, especially when they have the desire and the time to explain their passion. Studies have shown that Quebecers and tourists from outside the province increasingly appreciate this experience.
